Leadership at Christ Central

Leadership Structure

As a mission church, our leadership consists of a Temporary Session of Elders and an Advisory Group made up of men and women who are members of the church.

Temporary Session of Elders

Our governing body is composed of elders from several area churches. Elders are responsible for overseeing and nurturing the spiritual life of the church. Elders encourage the mission of the church and the congregation through participation in church events, and regular meetings with the pastor and other church leaders.

Rev. Kelly Scott

Kelly and his wife, Nancy, moved to Charlottesville in 2000 to launch the ministry of Cru at UVA. He received his M.Div. from Reformed Theological Seminary in 2007 and has directed the ministry of Athletes in Action at UVA since 2008. The Scotts have known Trinity as their home church throughout this time. After serving for five years as a ruling elder at Trinity, Kelly was ordained as a teaching elder in 2014.

Kelly and Nancy love spending time with their five children and one son-in-law, taking evening walks to the grounds of UVA, enjoying meals in their home with students and other friends, finding yet another amazing restaurant in C’ville, exercising, and reading—especially over a good cup of coffee!

Rev. David Saville

Dave is a TE with the Presbyterian Church in America, attending and serving Christ Central with his wife, Mary.  Dave also is the founder and owner of Eleos Counseling in Charlottesville, where he works as a counselor.

Mr. Michael Martin

Born and raised in Louisiana, Michael came to Virginia almost four years ago to attend UVa and he has stuck around pretty much since.  He works as a mortgage broker at Crown Mortgage, LLC.  He serves as a Ruling Elder at Trinity Presbyterian Church, as well as on the Temporary Session at Christ Central.

He also remains involved with the Blue Ridge Presbytery.  Currently he sits on the Leadership Development Committee and the Virginia Joint Presbytery Committee for Reformed University Fellowship (RUF).

He was also on the Permanent Committee of RUF for six years.

Mr. David Sawyer

David Sawyer came to Charlottesville as a student at the University of Virginia in 1989. After graduating with a degree in Spanish, he spent a year living in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, before returning to accept a teaching position at The Covenant School, where he has been teaching for three decades. After living in Charlottesville for 13 years, he moved his family to Waynesboro in 2002. He is a member of Tabernacle Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro, where he serves as a Ruling Elder, chairs the missions committee, and teaches discipleship classes to high school students. David is married to Denna and has four adult children. He also enjoys serving on the temporary session at Christ Central and is excited to see God's plans for the church in the future.

Lead Pastor

Rev. Joseph A. Magri

Joe has served at Christ Central as our organizing pastor since March, 2021. He was ordained to pastoral ministry in 2012 and served as the Pastor for Mercy at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville, before coming to Christ Central. One of his favorite Bible verses is found in Jeremiah, “Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known” (Jeremiah 33:3). It is a constant reminder of the depth of Christian faith and the invitation to grow in understanding.

Joe and his wife, Karen, have two adult daughters and five grandchildren whom they enjoy spending time with. He graduated from Reformed Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C (MDiv) and has continued studies at Knox Theological Seminary in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In his spare time, Joe likes to tinker with mechanical things and has built five ebikes.
