The Gospel is the Center
We believe that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is not just the entry point into the Christian life but also the principle and power by which the Christian life is lived out.
Our Values
Biblically Gounded: We believe that the Bible is God’s living word and is completely true in all that it teaches. Because it is God’s gracious self-revelation, we joyfully submit to its authority in all areas of life.
The Gospel is the Center: We believe that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is not just the entry point into the Christian life but also the principle and power by which the Christian life is lived out. The Apostle Paul says that the Gospel is the power of God unto salvation for all who believe. Salvation is not simply going to heaven when we die, nor is it simply being made right with God. It is more fully orbed than that. Salvation is being made right with God (justification), growing to be more and more like God (sanctification), and, one day being raised and entering into the eternal life that God promises (glorification). In all of these the Gospel is what both gives us a new status before God, won for us by Jesus, but also provides the power to change the very motivations that influence our behaviors. This Gospel doctrine leads to Gospel community, characterized by honesty, safety, forgiveness, and above all—love. (1 Cor 13:13)
Historically Rooted: As part of the Reformed Tradition, we celebrate standards set and lived imperfectly by those who have gone before us on similar paths, including historic creeds and confessions of the Christian Church.
Community is Key: Rather than being connected to one another by race, gender, education, economics, or politics, we believe that the Gospel creates a spiritual community that is ultimately united by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe that, as humans, we were made for community. We image a triune God who, in three persons, exists in an unbroken community and perfect unity. We were made for community in the same way. We were made to be both fully known and fully loved. Christian community, grounded in the Gospel of Jesus, provides the context for this. It is the context for change where our lives are open to one another, we are seen for who we are in both beauty and brokenness, and we are both loved and encouraged to grow closer to Jesus. Worship of God is at the heart of this spiritual community, along with hospitality, and service to neighbors. In our hyper-connected world, we lament that so many feel alone and we seek to offer real community.
Christianity is Mission: We believe that every Christian has been providentially placed exactly where they are to be missionaries. Jesus tells us that we are the light of the world and so, if the world is dark, it is not the darkness’s fault. It is the fault of the light that is not shining. We are all called to make disciples and see them also make disciples, whether that is in our homes, our neighborhoods, our workplaces, or where we play.
Children are the Future: The Church is always one generation from closing its doors. Children matter, and we believe that their care and discipleship is essential for the health of the church. We expect and desire to equip children and families to grow in faith amid the complexities of this world.
Christ Central Church is part of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA).
We are a growing denomination that seeks to be “faithful to the Scriptures, true to the Reformed faith, and obedient to the Great Commission of Jesus Christ.”
Regionally, Christ Central is also a member of the Blue Ridge Presbytery that includes churches across the western side of Virginia.
